Please bring with you: All practitioners are asked to bring evidence (their own knowledge of child and any supporting documentation) to support discussion in each of the 3 rounds below. School practitioners are asked to bring 2018 Handbook and Exemplification materials. (NB evidence= practitioner’s own knowledge as well as any documentation)
Round 1 Reading: Using Development Matters age/stage descriptors for Reading as a guide, please bring evidence to share to demonstrate the ability of one of your most confident ‘readers’ at this point in the year. Please note your assessment of the child’s current attainment in this area of learning
Round 2 Number: As above, please bring evidence to share to demonstrate the ability of one of your most confident mathematicians at this point in the year
Round 3 Writing: Please bring evidence to share to demonstrate the ability of one of your most confident mark makers/writers at this point in the year.
These twilight sessions in 3 areas of the Local Authority enable practitioners to come together for a professional discussion around judgements of children’s age and stage of development.
Moderation of assessments supports our confidence in the accuracy of data and provides an opportunity for building relationships with colleagues across the sectors and raising any emerging queries.
These clusters are relaxed and friendly and are an opportunity to ask others opinions and learn from each other. You will sit in small groups of 3 colleagues (peer moderators) from different settings to discuss your assessments.
There will be 3 Moderation discussion rounds: with 20 minutes for each round. Each round will start with a short whole group discussion looking at the age/stage descriptors and exemplification for the focus Area of Learning (AoL)
It is important that we build these assessment links if we are to ensure that children are well supported in their learning and development progression in the EYFS.
4.15pm - 5.30pm - St Andrew's Primary School (20th Feb 2018)
Practitioners will have the opportunity to discuss assessments across different age groups and areas of learning with peers.
This will support the general accuracy of assessment across the EYFS and build links locally between schools and early years settings.
