Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA) Training

Outline

This is a five day training programme to enable Teaching Assistants and similar professionals to become ELSAs for their schools.

ELSAs work with children and adolescents on aspects of emotional literacy including: emotional awareness, anger management, self-esteem and resilience, social and communication skills, friendship skills, loss and bereavement.

Description

To become an ELSA requires attending 5 days of training. Following this, ELSAs receive regular group supervision from an Educational Psychologist, 6 times per academic year.

Training dates: 3rd May, 17th May, 24th May, 21st June, 28th June 2019
Location: Keynsham Community Space above Keynsham Library
Cost: £580 (5 days training + 6 supervision sessions during 2019-20 academic year) - there is a 20% discount for schools that book 2 members of staff on this training.

Outcomes

Teaching Assistants, Learning Support Assistants, Mentors and other similar professionals who attend the five days of training will become certified ELSAs (dependent upon attending supervision during the 2019-20 academic year).

ELSAs plan and deliver programmes of support for children and young people who are experiencing temporary or longer term additional emotional needs. This is usually on an individual basis, but sometimes also in small groups.
