Don't Waste It - WARPit! - Sign up for FREE equipment and furniture
Schools can access FREE furniture, stationery and equipment that is no longer needed and is being given away locally. The Council have created a network for Bath and North East Somerset as part of the national online re-use network WARPit (which stands for Waste Action Resource Portal). WARPit gives away hundreds of surplus reusable items that would otherwise have been wasted by being sent to landfill or sitting unused. The Council, local universities and Avon & Somerset Police, are uploading surplus items onto the network such as desks, chairs, drawers, shelving, fixtures and fittings, and stationery. Micaela Basford, Sustainability Officer says, “we are using WARP-it to offer unwanted unusable, functional furniture and other items to local schools and community and voluntary groups. We’re committed to reducing landfill waste and are sure that many of the items that no longer fit in our offices could be made use of locally - WARPit is the ideal tool to help us redistribute these things.” Even if you don’t need anything immediately you might wish to register your group to be kept up to date with what is available. Remember, if an item is claimed, the school claiming it is responsible for arranging collection or transportation. It is free to sign-up to WARPit for all schools. What kind of items can be advertised? Anything workplace related; from a box of treasury tags, stationary and files, to bulkier items such as guillotines, drawing boards etc. Apart from by sharing within the Council, electrical items cannot be offered on WARPit.
